Horse Gram Curry:

Horse Gram Curry is one of the most popular lentil recipes from South Indian Cuisine. Kollu Kadaiyal in Tamil. It suits well for Lunch, With Rice. It also go well with Poori, Chappathi, Roti and Dosai. Horse gram is best for piles and kidney stone patients. It is also good for Diabetic and Heart patients. Because it is contains low fat with high anti oxidants. Horse gram helps to cure menstrual problems.

Ingredients:

  • Horse gram -75g
  • Finely chopped small Onions-7 Nos
  • Finely Chopped Tomato-1 No
  • Dry Red Chili – 4 or 5 nos
  • Coriander seeds-1-2 Teaspoon
  • Cumin seeds -1/2 Teaspoon
  • Fennel seeds -1/2 Teaspoon
  • Garlic Cloves-3 to 4 Nos
  • Turmeric Powder-1/4 Teaspoon
  • Tamarind Thick paste 2 Teaspoon (Optional)
  • Coriander Leaves for Garnish
  • Salt As needed

Instructions:

  1. Firstly, Soak Horse Gram for Minimum 6 Hours or Overnight. Keep aside.
  2. Secondly, Take a Pressure Cooker Pan. Add soaked horse gram, garlic and turmeric powder. Add 250ml 0f water close the lid, Put weight and wait for Minimum 8 Whistles.
  3. Thirdly Take a kadai without oil Roast red chillies, cumin seeds, corriander seeds and fennel seeds on medium flame. Then make it as fine powder in Mixie.
  4. Next Take a kadai add chopped onion, Tomato puree, Roast well. If needed, add one tablespoon of Oil.
  5. Finally add Grinded masala Powder and Blend well. Oil should be come separate.
  6. Next add Tamarind Paste Little Bit. This is optional. If you add Tomato more, skip this. I just add one Bangalore Tomato. Usually it doesn’t have sour taste.
  7. Wait for 5 Minutes. Finally garnish with Coriander leaves. You can serve this Horse Gram Curry with Rice, Dosa, Chappathi, Roti, Phulka and Poori.
