Kodo Millet Kozhukkatai:

Kodo millet Kozhukkattai is very unique, healthy and tasty. This recipe is yet another traditional breakfast or South Indian tiffen made with Millets. Presenting healthy and tasty Millet Kozhukkattai made with Kodo Millet or Varagarisi. Kozhukkattai is steamed snack that are light, filling and healthy. They are soft to eat and easy to digest. It is also kid’s friendly and senior citizen friendly. This Recipe is ideal for those who are trying to reduce weight, rice intake and switching over to whole grains and millets.

What is Millet?

Millets are small seeds, cereal grain and oldest cultivated grains in the World. Millets are antioxidant Property. It is gluten free grain. Millets are safe when consume it in moderate amount.

How Millet is Healthy?

Millet is Rich in Niacin, which is important for healthy skin and organ function. Millets are good sources of nutrition, carbohydrates, Protein, amino acids and fiber.

Ingredients:

  • Kodo millet—250 g
  • Chopped Big oinion-2 nos
  • Green chillies-2 nos
  • Grated coconut-50 g
  • Grated carrot-50 g
  • Mustard seeds-1/4 tsp
  • Jeera-1/4 tsp
  • Channa dal-1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves
  • Oil
  • Salt

Instructions:

  1. Firstly Wash twice or thrice well and then soak kodo millet for atleast 2 hrs. keep aside.

2.Secondly Heat oil in pan. Roast mustard, jeera, chana dal, chopped onion, green chillies, curry leaves, grated coconut and carrot.

3.Thirdly grind well the soaked kodo millet into fine paste. You can add water. The batter should be little bit watery.

4.Next add this batter into pan. Mix well just 3 minutes on medium flame. The batter consistency should be converting into thick. Switch off the stove. Leave it 5 minutes.

5.Next make that batter into small balls like kozhukkattai. Am going to steam it in idli cooker. So place all the kozhukkattai in Idli plates.

6.Before placing the idli stand or plates, add 3-4 cups of water in steamer or idli cooker. Bring this water to boil. Then place the idli stand or plates in hot water.

7.Finally, steam kodo kozhukkattai for 5-8 minutes on medium flame.

8.That’s All. Kozhukkattai is ready to serve. you can serve this kozhukkattai with coconut chuttney or tomato chuttney.
